Postmortem Commute # 1

Postmortem Commute # 1

OK, it’s Friday I’m tired. The Xanax hasn’t kicked in and I’m playing Cat Stevens. I can’t say I’m feeling sorry for myself but, a morbid thought crossed my mind as I’m driving across the Potomac.  What song would I want played at my funeral? Wild World? Then I realized, no, it would have to be: Girls Just Want To Have Fun, because that’s my attitude!  Yeah I just wanted to have fun and I did more or less until having kids interfered! Actually, since I’m not dead, I’m more less still having fun. Then I’m thinking wait a minute…… that’s not enough. I think I’ve got to go with Talking Heads: Once in a Lifetime.

And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself-Well…How did I get here?

How did I get here? But the rest of the lyrics go on to question my existence to the very core.

And you may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
And you may ask yourself
Where does that highway go?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right?…Am I wrong?
And you may tell yourself
MY GOD!…WHAT HAVE I DONE?

My Friday commute isn’t long enough to analyze all that. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. So my life is just a huge mixtape. What an epiphany for a Friday the 13th.
